The Design Process Begins

As much I wanted to jump right in to Photoshop and start creating, I figured it would be better if I planned out a design first. I think I want to go a different direction with the packaging colors and make them much more bold and vibrant. I like the idea of having a dark background, like the purple or blues below, with a bright text color. I have been using colorschemedesigner.com for years to get ideas for different shades of color to use. It helps to figure out which colors look best together. At the top right, it shows four different squares of color and I want to limit myself to two or three or those colors and white, so my design won't be overwhelming.

I am also trying to find a font to use for my logo and I found a few that I like from dafont.com. I like I like the bottom two the best, the have a "homemade" look to them, which is what I am trying to go for with my design.

My next step is to hand draw some ideas and I hope to upload those later this week.

Packaging Ideas: Part 2

I checked out Jurlique skin care products and I like their packaging as well. The design is simple but the bottles are really cute. I also like the idea of designing both a bottle and box.

Citrus Purifying MistPurifying Foaming Cleanser

I think my step is going to be figuring out the type of products I want to make, and then start designing from there. I want to design a bottle/container and box for a face wash, moisturizer and a spot treatment. I'm not sure if I want to try to come up with a creative name for the products or just say what they are, like 'cucumber and green tea facial cleanser'.

Face Wash: Cucumber, green tea, witch hazel gel cleanser

Moisturizer: Shea butter, coconut oil, aloe

Spot Treatment: Tea tree oil gel

Week 2: Packaging Ideas

I've found a couple natural acne skin care lines that are my inspiration for my packaging.

100% Pure Purity Collection

Burts Bees Natural Acne Treatment

Juice Beauty
Organics To Clear Skin

I want the packaging to be 'pretty' but not as plain as the 100% pure line but not as bold as the other two lines. I'm thinking of a white background with  lighter purple and mint green colors for the text, possibly with some black, and logo design. I like the idea of having a homemade packaging look (which my project actually will be).

Coming up with a name of the brand is a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. I think something simple like 'Stephanie Organics' would be okay. This is a basic idea of what I want my logo to look like:

It obviously needs some work, but I like the colors I think it's a good first draft.
